At Royal Steensma B.V. we prefer to talk about Corporate Social Responsibility instead of sustainability. As for Corporate Social Responsibility, we take responsibility for the effects of our business activities on people, the environment and business operations. In other words: People, Planet, Profit. We make conscious choices to achieve a balance between these three important elements. In our policy we focus on these three elements which are explained below;

• Affiliated with the collective labor agreement for the vegetable and fruit processing industry
• Member of the Nebafa (Association of Dutch Manufacturers of Bakery Raw Materials)
• Member of Sedex
• RiskPlaza and Specsplaza certified
• Member of Innexus (Association of cooperating Food companies in the Northern Netherlands)
• IFS, BRC and Kosher certified
• Every year multible internships are completed by pupils and students of MBO and HBO studies
• Attention for safe and hygienic working, as guaranteed in the work instructions
• Confidential advisers have been appointed per location
• Prevention staff and health & safety coordinators are present at each location
• Royal Steensma has an active training policy and also participates in various training committees
• Royal Steensma works closely with the SOL
• Royal Steensma actively participates in various Human Capital meetings in the North of The Netherlands and the Rotterdam area.
• Royal Steensma has developed a new Food course in collaboration with the business community, government and education, the “Food Innovation Academy”
• Royal Steenma is involved in the elaboration of the sector plan
• Royal Steensma has various projects at all three locations aimed at the sustainable employability of employees. A subsidy from the European Social Fund has been and is being used
• Plant Vlaardingen was Halal certified in 2015 by Halal Correct

• Royal Steensma has two active water treatment plants that clean our wastewater up to 85%
• Energy monitoring is carried out at the locations to keep consumption as low as possible. In Franeker, water and energy consumption per ton of end product has fallen by an average of 20% since 2010
• Production lines are set up in such a way that the chance of rejection is minimal
• Newly purchased electric motors are always of the most energy-efficient version
• Reuse of condensation water, which means energy savings and water savings
• New industrial buildings have an R-value of 5
• All newly purchased forklifts have been electric since 2007
• Reduced transport kilometers due to new own warehouse with pallet shuttle system
• Waste is collected separately and offered to fermentation plants and recycling companies if possible
• The fleet has achieved a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions within two years
• Management drives hybrid cars
• No genetically modified raw materials are used (non-GMO)
• There is a continuous focus on water consumption per ton of product produced, resulting in a reduction of our specific water consumption by more than 10% over the last three years
• Since 2016, Plant Leeuwarden switched to RSPO MB fats and (partly) to UTZ cocoa powder
• Since 2013, Plant Vlaardingen has processed 33% more raw materials per m3 of gas

• Royal Steensma B.V. is an independent family business, which has existed for almost two centuries
• The strategy is aimed at achieving continuity and healthy returns according to social and company-specific standards
• R&D activities are focused on Clean-label products, with as little or no use of additives as possible
